Walk away your Waist Fat
![]() |
Come for a short walk with me, Rosie Peters, around my walking circuit.
Yes, it is quite beautiful and inspiring, but even if you are living in a hot, dry, stoney desert or a very dirty city – both of which I’ve done – you have to get walking on a regular basis.
No excuses.
If you can get into a good walking habit, you are going to get rid of love handles, burning your waist fat off forever.
You are going to look and feel great without that ugly ab fat and you will stay fit and healthy for the rest of your life.
Of course, different body shapes (somatotypes) need different degrees of cardio in your workout week.
To find out more about your body type and how much walking you need to do to get rid of love handles, have a look at the somatotypes page in my website.
Meanwhile, take just a couple of minutes to come for a short walk with me to burn your waist fat.

Enjoyed your “walking” podcast. I’m in Thailand at the moment and it’s too hot to walk during the day. Especially for a brisk walk. So, 20 minutes in the cool morning should do the trick. With my stick of course to fend off the many stray dogs
. Thanks for encouraging a walking routine.
While I’ve never been to Thailand, I have spent too much time in the desert of western Queensland armed with a stick against blue heeler dogs and brown snakes, so I can relate to you! Thanks for taking the time to comment. All the best.
Rosie
Thankfully I haven’t encountered any snakes yet. And hopefully never will. Except the occasional dead one on the road. Is it really true that I can get rid of my “love handles” by walking? What about swimming? And have you got any tips for easy exercises to keep bone density loss at bay?
Walking will do it for you Evelyn, but you need a bit more than 20 minutes at a time. It’s only after 20 minutes that your body starts attacking your fat reserves when you do low intensity cardio. It took me 6 months of walking 6 days a week for 50 minutes a day to lose 15kg of fat. And walking was the only exercise I did till I got slim, then I went to the gym and got onto the weights. Mind you, you are going to ache in strange places while your muscles get used to it.
Swimming is fine, but like walking, it’s low intensity and you need to do it for say 30-45 minutes to see a good result. And it’s got to be laps, not just bobbing about in a pool.
With age, diet is important for bone density, so we women need to really keep our calcium up (800-1000mg a day), so the best thing here is to get a little calorie counter book and check out the amounts in the foods you like and just calculate it up.
The other thing for bones is regular weight training. Not heavy, but light weights and lots of reps 3 times a week. This will help with weight loss too.
That’s a lot of walking, Rosie
Not sure whether I need to loose 15kg of fat. My weight is the same, and I know that my muscles have turned into fat. Well, I think so anyway. And if I combine it with weight training that should do it. I’m not going to the gym here, can I do it with plastic bottles of water? Or empty bottles in the pool? Not sure about the movements, I just do a little of this and a little of that.
Thanks for all these great tips.
Evelyne, you can definitely use homemade weights, like plastic bottles filled with water. When I lived in the Qld desert, I just walked to work (very early as it got stinking hot) and rode on an exercise bike under the house. I used 2 x 2kg bags of sugar as weights in my loungeroom (with plastic bags round them for spillage!).
